We loved the dreamy quality to these photos and thought Ms. Roller did an awesome job of keeping the somewhat edgy, alternative qualities of this couple while also conveying a very soft and romantic feeling. We love the lighting – how everything has a golden hue while still looking very natural – and the portrait shots are so intense and beautifully done.

Ms. Roller is based out of California where she lives with her family and her pygmy goat, Brownie. Her work can be found on her website. She also shoots portrait, fashion, and editorial.

Fashion 2.0

Last night we attended Fashion 2.0. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Fashion 2.0 is an event hosted by Style Coalition and supported by LIM – the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising – in New York. It’s a great way to meet interesting people in the fashion industry including everyone from designers, bloggers, PR reps, social media managers, and industry leaders. Read more about it here.

Last night’s panel included the social media managers of DKNY, Bergdorf Goodman, and Kate Spade. Hearing about how these ground-breaking fashion companies use their social media channels was very engaging. This whole “social media revolution” is new for everyone so there was a lot of discussion from the panelists about experimentation, being unsure, and sometimes failing but getting back in the game with a strong effort afterwards. It just sort of made us realize that this whole thing is up in the air; even for the industry leaders .

The event took place at LIM’s Maxwell Hall on E. 45th Street.

Here are some responses from the speakers about how they use social media:

Q. What is the strategy behind your online personality?
A. Convey the brand message in a way that is not commercial. I don’t need to have a schedule or a plan. It’s very organic.

Q. How do you measure ROI?
A. I don’t really measure ROI. ROI is something I feel. It’s not really a numbers game at this point. I measure my success by my engagement with my audience.

Q. What is your most successful campaign?
A. Creative hashtags – get trending and engage.

Q. How do you keep up with social media platforms?
A. You feel with your gut. I always say “If I don’t want to read that, why am I putting it out there?” You have to be excited about it. I carve my own road and it works for me. Don’t spread yourself thin.

Q. What is your goal with social media?
A. It’s our voice beyond our print ads. We want to bring fans into our brand. You have to make your brand have a voice and you have to innovate within the platform.

Some pointers:

  • Look for the strengths of each channel and tailor communication to these strengths.
  • Make your brand have a voice.
  • Make campaigns with a common thread.
  • Innovate within each platform.
  • Be open to experimentation.
  • Ask questions – aim to inspire.
  • Have a sense of humor and have fun.

We hope that if you couldn’t make it to Fashion 2.0 last night this post helps you – it certainly gave us some things to think about.

Weekly Wedding Look – Classic Bride

Winifred Bean has been crazy busy this weekend! We’ve had a ton of new, exciting things going on which we are beyond excited about! We’ve been talking to the amazing people at Martha Stewart Weddings and are hoping to have some dresses featured in an upcoming edition. We can’t wait to see what happens and are so thrilled that they thought of our dresses. They also have an amazing office that I was lucky enough to chill out in for a bit.

We weren’t too busy to do a Weekly Wedding Look for you this week, however! This one is inspired by the classic bride and the Winifred Bean Petals Scooped Tulle Dress.

The Petals dress is fashioned from a double faced silk bodice fully lined with cotton faille and silk voile. The layered tulle skirt is layers and layers of tulle and silk organza and is fully lined with silk habatai; perfect for the classic creative bride.

Photographer Spotlight: Braedon Flynn

Today on the blog we’ve decided to do a photographer spotlight! Photography is such an important part of making the memories you have of your most perfect day a tangible piece of your life you can hold onto forever and share with those around you. I have a picture of my grandmother on her wedding day next to my bed that I can’t help but smile at every night when I see how beautiful and happy she looked.

Choosing the right photographer can be a difficult process; there are so many factors to consider (budget not being the least important of them) but there are so many options out there and if you just keep looking you’ll be bound to find a photographer that suits your style and your budget.

We first got a taste of Braedon Photography when we saw this Outdoor Orange County Engagement Shoot on Inspired By This. Needless to say we were very impressed.

We love how these photographs seem to capture the personalities of this adorable couple. The shoot feels cool, fun, and relaxed.

You can view Braedon’s portfolio on his website but here are some of our favorite photographs:

As you can tell – we’re smitten with Braedon Flynn. Find him on Twitter, Facebook, or read his blog. Braedon Photography is based in sunny California.

Featured Wedding

We haven’t done a featured wedding post in awhile but we seriously love looking at the featured weddings on our favorite blogs. They give us so many inspiring ideas for styling, decoration, DIY projects, and so much more. Winifred Bean is a wedding dress collection – and we believe the look starts with the perfect dress. We also know that it doesn’t end there; a perfect wedding involves so much and requires so much attention to detail. Here’s one that we thought was well-achieved with a colorful DIY flare. It was featured yesterday on Green Wedding Shoes but in case you missed it here’s a look:

Becca says: The main inspiration behind our day was color! We wanted something romantic (soft colors and lots of candlelight) mixed with something fun for all the guests to enjoy. The basic details (linens, etc) were white and we added in a lot of color and pattern to reflect our personalities a little bit more. The main thing I was dead set on was the bright pink felt heart cake topper with a white cake filled with pink cake. To me that expressed our fun and bold personalities the most, and we just built everything off of that.

Isn’t it beautiful? The couple really let their personalities show in the details. You can tell this wedding was all about Becca and Orion. Thanks again to Green Wedding Shoes for featuring this wedding!

Same time tomorrow?

Weekly Wedding Look – Lilac

So we were pretty inspired by our last post – a DIY for lilac bouquets – and decided to create this week’s Weekly Wedding Look around these beautiful pastel flowers and the Winifred Bean Calla Lily dress.

The strapless corset bustier top of this dress is elegant with a modern twist. Fashioned from double-faced satin, it is fully lined with an interior corset and boning. The skirt is a trumpet silhouette that falls just a little bit longer in the back for a subtle train.

We paired this dress with a lilac bouquet and purple Prada pumps (say it five times fast?) along with a simple twisted low bun and pearl stud earrings that never go out of style.

DIY Friday: Lilac Bouquet

Today seems like a DIY kind of day, don’t you think? We started off our morning on this gloomy (again) Friday reading some of our favorite blogs and it just started to seem like a project kind of day. We stumbled upon this post from the lovely ladies at Elizabeth Anne Designs (if you haven’t, please check them out!)  and started feeling the lilac love.

Create a Wild Lilac Bouquet

We love the idea of a lilac bouquet. They smell fantastic and their delicate blossoms add an element of  grace and whimsy to any style or setting. Here’s a DIY tutorial that we found on Project Wedding so that you can give it a try!

Create a Wild Lilac Bouquet

1. Condition flowers overnight. Cut the stems and cut a slit upwards in each stem to allow it to drink water. Sit them in lukewarm water in a cool place away from drafts, heat, and fruit and food.
2. Strip most of the leaves off the lilacs. Usually the stems are long so trim them to around 12″ each. Make sure there is one stem per large blossom. If there are two stems, trim one off.
3. Make piles of each type and color.
4. Gather 1- 2 stems in your one hand. Add stems at a 45 degree angle. Turn the bouquet to the right each time you add stems.

Create a Wild Lilac Bouquet

The stems should spiral. For the most part, larger, heavier blooms should sit at the bottom of the bouquet and lighter buds and blossoms should sit near the top.

Create a Wild Lilac Bouquet

5. Secure with twine or string.

6. Add a ribbon. We used a patterned cloth tape (usually sold for bookbinding) and simply wrapped it on top of the string. If you use a ribbon, secure with a pin.

Tips for Working With Lilacs

  • Always give them a clean cut when you bring them home. Cut at an angle, and then cut upwards into the stem, once.
  • Use lukewarm water, lilacs don’t like to be shocked by really cold or hot water.
  • If some blooms start to wilt, recut the stems.
  • Keep away from fruit, food, direct sunlight, and drafts. Plan to buy a bit more than you need, a few stems in the bunch will always wilt.

There you have it folks. Easy, right? Bouquets don’t have to be for brides, either! Give one as a “Thank You” to someone special or just place them around the house for an instant pick-me-ip.

Until next time -

Spring Trend: Structured Jackets

Where did the sun go, New York? It’s been rainy and cloudy the past few days which is such a tease after the constant sun we’d been having a few weeks ago. We thought Spring was here, but alas, today it feels like March again.

We’ve been thinking of ways to cope and one of our favorite ways to brighten up on a rainy day is with a lovely structured trench coat. If you have to walk around in the rain – at least do it in style. Here are a few of our favorite finds:

(all images from Pinterest)

Most of these are from older collections but our go-to sites  for interesting and sophisticated outerwear are Ruche, J.Crew, Top Shop, Zara, and Olive. They always have unique new collections at reasonable prices with delicate details like floral patterns, crocheted details, or bows.

Hang in there y’all, Spring is on it’s way and until then take advantage of those rainy day accessories. Maybe we should do a feature on umbrellas next…-brainstorming next post already….-

Designer Series: Digby and Iona goes bridal

As some of you may remember, two weeks ago Winifred Bean had a chat with Aaron Ruff – the designer behind the contemporary jewelry line Digby and Iona. We loved featuring Digby and Iona for our  series and we were so lucky to be able to talk to the designer.

Well, today we’re overjoyed to announce that Mr. Ruff has designed his debut collection of wedding jewelry which will be available  at Catbird in Brooklyn, on their website www.catbirdnyc.com and at www.digbyandiona.com.

Our friends at Catbird are the exclusive boutique vendors of this collection and have been working alongside Mr. Ruff as he develops the collection. In regards to his latest endeavor Mr. Ruff tells Catbird:

I’ve been working on the the design end of this collection for a year and I’ve been squirreling away the diamonds for almost 4 years. I feel like this is a really huge step forward for the brand and that these pieces mesh extremely unique jewels with the kind of design details that digby has become known for.”

And when Catbird asked Mr. Ruff about his transition into wedding jewelry, he responded:

“I’ve gotten a lot of custom wedding/engagement band jobs over the past few years and really love it. I started making jewelry with the aspiration of making heirloom pieces, so this is a natural step. Plus it’s super fun to get to play with diamonds!”

This collection is every bit as beautiful as we expected it to be. Timeless, classic, beautiful, and true to the signature Digby and Iona style – in one word: unique. These pieces are sure to become instant heirlooms.
